A Poem to K

So Nearly There

Painted man, upon your skin

Danced pictures of your coloured past

Hard on the outside, sweet within

Through storm and sunshine you held fast

To love of friends and hope of light

Knowing of a better way

Trusting the morn to follow night

And hands to wipe your tears away

You were like us, both good and bad

Made of joy and painful things

Like all of us, we knew you had

Both devil’s horns and angel’s wings

So many words are left unsaid

Your life a short unfinished prayer

For happiness and your own bed

So nearly there, so nearly there
